About Nico Talks Movies

I'm Nico, a film composer by trade and a cinema obsessive by nature. It would appear that the time has come to add to that an avid movie critic with a penchant for sarcasm. Much like Quentin Tarantino didn't go to film school but went to films, I've learned much of what I know about storytelling, pacing, and emotion not from textbooks but from the big screen—and occasionally the small one when life gets too busy.

It is alarmingly easy to get lost in the technical side of creating film scores on deadline-induced caffeine highs, and completely forget why I started doing this in the first place: I love being told a good story. A movie that makes me forget I exist for two hours? That's the dream.

This site is a way for me to keep myself grounded in that love. It's my film-watching gym membership, holding me accountable to actually sit down and watch them rather than have work eat up every waking hour. And, of course, to make me feel slightly less guilty about binge-watching when I should be doing something productive.

My reviews? Short and in plain human language. No film-school buzzwords, no jargon-laden elitism. Just how a movie made me feel once the end credits rolled. My 5-star system is as straightforward as it gets—purely emotional. If it made me feel something real, it's probably getting a good rating. If it didn't, well, better luck next time.
